DistributionNorthwestern Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Germany); Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington)
SeasonSeptember through November

Key Identification Feature

Non-separable pellicle (unlike P. semilanceata whose pellicle peels); mycelial threads at stem base; lawn and meadow habitat

⚠ Dangerous Lookalikes

Psilocybe semilanceata (very similar; distinguished by non-peeling pellicle in liniformans); Panaeolina foenisecii (non-psychoactive, no bluing)

Notes

Less potent than P. semilanceata, sometimes found growing alongside it in the same meadows. The non-peeling pellicle is the definitive identification feature. European populations are well-documented; North American records less frequent.

Legal Status Warning Psilocybin-containing mushrooms are controlled substances in most jurisdictions. This guide is for educational purposes only. Wild foraging for psilocybin mushrooms may be illegal in your location. Never consume wild mushrooms without positive identification from an expert mycologist — misidentification can be fatal.
