Koh Samui Mushroom Strain
Overview
Koh Samui is a Psilocybe cubensis strain originating from the island of Koh Samui, Thailand — one of the classic Southeast Asian strains. It was collected and isolated in the 1990s and has been a stable community strain ever since. Koh Samui is notable for its short, thick fruiting bodies with wide, caramel-colored caps — a distinctly different morphology from the typical tall, thin cubensis shape. The mycelium is aggressive and colonizes quickly. In some categorizations it's considered a separate 'super strain' because of its particularly dense and thick fruiting bodies.
Effects & Experience
Warm, clear-headed, and sociable — Koh Samui is often described as producing a more 'functional' and less visually overwhelming experience than high-potency strains. Good for social settings at moderate doses. Emotionally warm and conversational rather than introspective and heavy.
Potency Profile
Average — 0.5-0.9% psilocybin by dry weight. Well within normal cubensis range. The strain is not known for potency but for consistency and pleasant effect quality.
Cultivation Notes
Fast colonizer with aggressive mycelium — one of the faster-colonizing strains in the cubensis world. Fruiting bodies are compact, short-stemmed, and thick-capped, which makes them less prone to tipping than tall-stemmed strains. Fruits readily in a range of conditions. Pinning is reliable and dense. Multiple strong flushes are typical. Excellent for monotub and PF Tek alike.
