Melmac Mushroom Strain

Overview

Melmac (also called Melmac PE or Homestead Penis Envy) is a Penis Envy variant developed by the Homestead Book Company in the 1980s-90s. It shares the PE lineage's characteristic higher potency and unusual morphology — thick, wavy stems with the wavy or alien-looking cap structure the strain is named for ('Melmac' being a reference to the alien TV character ALF's home planet). Melmac is one of the more potent PE variants and is increasingly popular among experienced cultivators.

Effects & Experience

Strong — comparable to or exceeding standard Penis Envy. High potency with visual intensity, deep introspection, and pronounced emotional and cognitive effects. The experience character is similar to other PE variants: heavier, more physically present, and more intense than typical cubensis.

Potency Profile

High — among the more potent PE variants. Estimated psilocybin content 1.0–1.5%+ dry weight in good specimens.

Cultivation Notes

Intermediate difficulty. Slower colonization than most strains (similar to PE family), irregular fruiting pattern, and less predictable pinning than beginner strains. The distinctive wavy, mutant morphology can look concerning to new cultivators — the irregular cap shape is characteristic, not contamination. Performs best in monotub.
