McKennaii Mushroom Strain
Overview
McKennaii was developed by Dutch cultivators and named in honor of Terence McKenna — the philosopher, ethnobotanist, and psychedelic advocate whose writing and speaking shaped the modern understanding of psilocybin in Western culture. McKenna himself died in 2000, before this strain was widely cultivated, but the tribute reflects the profound influence his work had on the cultivation community. McKennaii produces dense, dark-capped fruiting bodies and is valued for reliably above-average potency combined with manageable cultivation requirements — intermediate in difficulty rather than the full challenge of Penis Envy.
Effects & Experience
McKennaii is described by users as producing a deeply philosophical, introspective experience with strong visual effects and significant ego softening at moderate-high doses. Many users report experiences that match McKenna's own descriptions of psilocybin's effects — encounters with patterns of meaning, dissolution of ordinary self-referential thinking, and a quality of direct encounter with something larger than ordinary consciousness. It is not for beginners but is accessible to experienced cubensis users.
Potency Profile
McKennaii tests at 0.9–1.3% total tryptamines — meaningfully above average for cubensis, approaching the lower range of Penis Envy. A notable step up from Golden Teacher.
Cultivation Notes
McKennaii colonizes more slowly than beginner strains but more reliably than Penis Envy. It benefits from grain-to-grain transfers and performs best in monotub environments. Agar work is helpful for maintaining strong cultures but not strictly required as it is for APE. An appropriate challenge for growers who have successfully run 5+ monotub grows.
