Psilocybin Laws in Utah
Utah has introduced psilocybin therapy legislation and conducted an official state study on psychedelic therapy. Utah's proximity to Colorado and its large veteran and LDS community — where mental health stigma and alternative treatments are both significant factors — have shaped the debate.
Current Legal Status
Active Legislation
Psilocybin remains Schedule I under Utah law. A state-commissioned study on psychedelic therapy was completed in 2024, and a therapeutic framework bill has been introduced based on its findings.

Key Legislation
HB 417 (2023) directed the Utah Department of Health to study psilocybin therapy — passed and signed. HB 324 (2025) proposed a licensed therapeutic program based on the study findings; in House Health Committee.

University of Utah has broad research programs. Check ClinicalTrials.gov for Salt Lake City-area enrolling psilocybin studies.
