Psilocybin Laws in Texas
Texas has introduced psilocybin legislation, driven heavily by veteran advocacy and the 2026 federal executive order accelerating psychedelic research. Texas has the largest veteran population of any state and bipartisan support has emerged around PTSD treatment.

Active Legislation
Psilocybin remains Schedule I under Texas law. Bills for a veteran-focused therapeutic psilocybin program have been introduced in the Texas Legislature with rare bipartisan support. The 2026 federal executive order has increased political momentum in Austin.



Key Legislation
HB 1802 (2023) directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to study psilocybin therapy for veterans — passed and signed into law. SB 319 (2025) proposed a licensed therapeutic program for veterans with PTSD; in Senate Health Committee. The federal executive order (April 2026) has accelerated urgency.
Clinical Trials
UT Southwestern Medical Center, Baylor College of Medicine, and MD Anderson Cancer Center have participated in psychedelic research. Multiple trials enrolling in Dallas, Houston, and Austin.
