Psilocybin Laws in Michigan
Michigan has decriminalized psilocybin in several cities including Ann Arbor, Detroit, Hazel Park, and Grand Rapids. Statewide legislation has been introduced and Michigan is considered a likely candidate for a full therapeutic program.
Current Legal Status
Decriminalized in Multiple Cities
Psilocybin remains a Schedule I controlled substance under Michigan law. However, four cities have deprioritized enforcement. A statewide therapeutic access bill has been introduced in the Michigan Legislature.



Key Legislation
Ann Arbor City Council resolution (September 2020) — first Michigan city to deprioritize entheogen enforcement. Detroit resolution (2021). Hazel Park and Grand Rapids followed. SB 631 (2025) statewide therapeutic psilocybin services act introduced.
Decriminalization
Ann Arbor, Detroit, Hazel Park, and Grand Rapids have passed resolutions making psilocybin enforcement the lowest priority. Detroit's resolution is notable for its explicit equity and harm reduction framing.
Clinical Trials
University of Michigan has participated in psilocybin research. Check ClinicalTrials.gov for Detroit and Ann Arbor area enrolling studies.
