About

Psychedelic Society of Minnesota was founded in 2018 by Dr. Jessica Nielson. Its focus spans public education, harm reduction, research, drug policy reform, and community building. The Society operates as a sober, harm-reduction-focused space with strict policies against illegal activities during events.

Dr. Nielson's dual role as Society founder AND chair of the state Psychedelic Medicine Task Force means this organization has a direct pipeline to policymakers. The Task Force recommended decriminalization of psilocybin, MDMA, and LSD in 2024. Minneapolis achieved decriminalization via Mayor Frey's executive order (July 2023) — the first U.S. city to do so via executive action rather than ballot measure.

Why It Matters

The integration of community organizing (Society) and state policy work (Task Force) under one figure is uniquely effective. Other states should study this model.
