Psilocybin Laws in New York
New York has active psilocybin reform legislation with multiple bills advancing. New York City has seen significant harm reduction advocacy and New York University is one of the leading psilocybin research institutions in the world.

Active Legislation
Psilocybin remains Schedule I under New York law. Bills for both personal decriminalization and a therapeutic framework are moving through the legislature. A comprehensive psychedelic therapy bill passed the New York Senate in 2025.



Key Legislation
S.6344 (2024) proposed decriminalizing personal possession of psilocybin and other natural psychedelics — passed Senate. A.8569 (2025) therapeutic services act introduced in the Assembly. New York City Council has debated a lowest-priority enforcement resolution.
Clinical Trials
NYU Langone Center for Psychedelic Medicine is one of the premier psilocybin research institutions globally. Columbia University Irving Medical Center also conducts psychedelic research. Multiple trials actively enrolling in New York City.
