Open Foundation — Netherlands Psychedelic Research

The Open Foundation is a Dutch nonprofit research organization dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge of psychedelic substances and their therapeutic applications. Based in Amsterdam, the Foundation funds and conducts research at Dutch universities, hosts the annual Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research (ICPR) — one of Europe's largest gatherings of psychedelic researchers — and publishes the Journal of Psychedelic Studies. The Open Foundation's work is particularly significant in the European regulatory context: European approval pathways for psychedelic medicines (through the EMA rather than the FDA) require European data, and the Foundation's research program contributes directly to that evidence base. The ICPR conference has hosted presentations from leading global researchers including those from Johns Hopkins, Imperial College London, and MAPS, facilitating the international research collaboration that accelerates the field. The Foundation also operates public education programs on psychedelic science and policy for Dutch audiences, recognizing that public understanding shapes the political environment in which research occurs.
