Biography

Jason Stevens founded Rising Phoenix Entheogenic Temple in 2024 and grew it to three permanent locations by October 2025 — one of the most aggressive expansion campaigns in the sacramental church space. Stevens' positioning of the Haight Street location at 440 Haight, less than one mile from the historic Grateful Dead House, was a deliberate cultural statement intended to embed the church in San Francisco's psychedelic heritage.

The church's theology, 'Entheoism,' borrows eclectically from 12 major world religions with psilocybin at the center. Stevens has insisted on free membership and no financial barriers, distinguishing Rising Phoenix from churches that use tiered or donation-based access models. The church operates 10AM-8PM daily across all three locations.

Stevens has turned Rising Phoenix into a cultural institution, hosting full-week Grateful Dead celebrations and pop-ups at major San Francisco events. The Vallejo Street location expanded the church's SF footprint, and the Santa Cruz location at 212 Fern Street places Rising Phoenix in direct dialogue with the Holy Trinity of Divine Church under Santa Cruz's 2020 municipal decriminalization framework.

Why They Matter to the LearnShrooms Community

Stevens demonstrates the operational ceiling for the sacramental church model — whether free-membership, daily-access, multi-location religious access can scale across multiple California cities. His expansion pace is unprecedented in the sacramental space.
