David Bronner
CEO, Dr. Bronner's; Psychedelic Policy Advocate
CEO of Dr. Bronner's soap who has donated millions to psychedelic research and decriminalization campaigns, making his family company one of the largest private funders of psychedelic policy reform in the United States.
Biography
David Bronner is the grandson of Dr. Emanuel Bronner, founder of the Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps brand, and has led the company as CEO since the late 1990s. Under his leadership, Dr. Bronner's has become the largest corporate funder of psychedelic research, drug policy reform, and psychedelic decriminalization campaigns in the United States.
Bronner has personally donated millions of dollars to MAPS, contributing critically to the Phase 2 and Phase 3 MDMA-assisted therapy trials when government funding was unavailable. He funded significant portions of multiple state decriminalization campaigns, including financial support for the Oregon Measure 109 (psilocybin therapy) and Measure 110 (drug decriminalization) campaigns in 2020, and Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act campaign in 2022.
Beyond financial contributions, Bronner has been a personal and vocal advocate — chaining himself to a USDA facility in protest of hemp import restrictions, speaking publicly about his own psychedelic experiences, and using the Dr. Bronner's brand and platform to normalize conversations about psychedelics. He participated in the Zendo Project at Burning Man and has publicly credited psychedelic experiences with shaping his values around social justice, environmental sustainability, and corporate responsibility.
His advocacy extends to ibogaine for addiction treatment, cannabis legalization, and the broader project of ending the War on Drugs. The Dr. Bronner's brand has integrated psychedelic and drug policy messaging into its labels, packaging, and marketing — reaching a mass consumer audience with reform messaging that would be unavailable through conventional political channels.

Why They Matter to the LearnShrooms Community
Private philanthropy has been essential to funding psychedelic research during the decades when federal funding was unavailable or inadequate. Bronner has been one of the most significant private donors to both research and decriminalization, and his willingness to publicly identify his company's funding makes him a uniquely visible corporate advocate in a space where most donors prefer anonymity.
