Psilocybin Laws in Hawaii
Hawaii has been among the most active states in introducing psilocybin legislation, with bills introduced in multiple consecutive sessions. Hawaii's progressive political culture and strong wellness tourism industry have both influenced the reform debate.
Current Legal Status
Active Legislation
Psilocybin remains illegal under Hawaii law. However, SB 738 and companion bills have passed out of committee in the Hawaii Legislature, making Hawaii one of the states most likely to establish a program in 2026–2027.

Key Legislation
SB 738 (2023) established a psilocybin working group and passed the Senate — a companion bill was introduced in 2024. SB 669 (2025) proposed a full licensed therapeutic framework; passed Senate Health Committee.
Clinical Trials
University of Hawaii and private research partners have participated in psilocybin studies. Check ClinicalTrials.gov for Honolulu-area enrolling studies.
