I did my first session at a licensed Oregon service center in Portland last month. The session itself was profound — I won't try to describe the full experience — but I want to share the practical things I wish I'd known going in, because I found a lot of guides online that were either too vague or focused entirely on the psychological preparation and not enough on logistics. The preparation session matters more than you think. I almost cancelled mine because it felt like a formality. It wasn't. The facilitator asked me questions that surfaced things I hadn't planned to bring into the session, and those ended up being central to what came up. Give the prep session real time and honesty. Don't schedule anything for the next day. I had a work call at 10am the morning after and I had to cancel it. The afterglow state is real and you will not want to be functional. Bring layers. I was cold for the first 90 minutes and the service center had blankets but I wish I'd worn warmer clothes. The eye mask is non-negotiable. I was resistant to using it. When I finally put it on about 45 minutes in, everything deepened immediately. Trust the protocol.

The point about the prep session is so true. My facilitator told me 'what you bring to the preparation is what you bring to the session' and I didn't really believe it until afterwards.

How long in advance did you book? I've been trying to get into a few Portland centers and they're all 6+ weeks out.

The cold thing is real — psilocybin affects thermoregulation. Warmth = safety for the nervous system. Good facilitators will have heated blankets. Worth asking when you book.
