I'm considering applying for a clinical trial at a research university near me. I've found almost no first-person accounts of what the process is actually like — the screening, the preparation sessions, the day of, the integration. Can anyone who's been through a clinical trial share what to expect?

The screening is more intensive than most people expect. Medical workup, psychiatric evaluation, detailed substance use history, multiple interviews over several weeks. They're looking for contraindications and trying to understand who you are. This is a feature, not a bug — it's part of why clinical psilocybin is safe.

Preparation sessions (usually 2-4 before the dose day) are themselves valuable. The therapist team helps you understand what to expect, work on your intention, and develop trust. By the time you take the dose, you know these people. That context changes the experience completely.

The dose day is typically 8 hours at the research facility. Comfortable recliner, eye mask, music playlist curated by the research team. Two therapists present throughout. You're not left alone. Post-session: they debrief you and make sure you're safe to go home.
