Psilocybin tolerance: how quickly it builds, how quickly it resets

I know that psilocybin builds tolerance quickly. But I've seen everything from '2 weeks is enough to reset' to 'you need a month between sessions.' What does the pharmacology say, and what do experienced users actually find?
The mechanism: cross-tolerance at 5-HT2A receptors. After a significant psilocybin experience, receptor downregulation reduces sensitivity for days to weeks. Neuroimaging studies suggest the acute effects on neural connectivity normalize within 24-48 hours, but receptor sensitivity takes longer.
Practical guideline from clinical research protocols: 2-week minimum between sessions. 4 weeks is more conservative and more commonly used in therapy protocols. The Hopkins and NYU trials typically used at least 2-4 weeks. For recreational use: a month is a sensible outer bound if you want full sensitivity.
Stacking experiences (multiple doses in quick succession) essentially doesn't work for producing stronger cumulative effects. Redosing on the same day: limited additional effect after the first dose. The tolerance profile makes psilocybin self-limiting in a way that differs from many other substances.
