ADHD medications and psilocybin — interaction guide and timing

I have ADHD and take Adderall (amphetamine). I want to do a psilocybin session and I'm getting conflicting information about whether I need to stop my medication, for how long, and what the interaction is. Can we compile what's actually known about this?
The pharmacology: amphetamines (Adderall, Vyvanse) work via norepinephrine and dopamine release/reuptake inhibition. This is a different system than psilocybin's primary mechanism (5-HT2A agonism). There is no documented direct receptor competition between amphetamines and psilocybin. However, amphetamines significantly affect baseline physiological state — elevated heart rate, increased sympathetic activation, altered serotonin dynamics. These baseline effects interact with the psilocybin experience.
Practical guidance most often cited in harm reduction contexts: Skip your dose on session day. The half-life of Adderall XR is 10-13 hours — so a morning dose on the day before a session is largely cleared by session time. This is very different from SSRI washout (which takes weeks). You do NOT need to stop Adderall long-term before a psilocybin session.
The anxiety interaction: ADHD medications can increase anxiety, especially at higher doses. Psilocybin amplifies baseline state. If you're already on the anxious side from your ADHD med, the amplification effect of psilocybin can push anxiety higher. Skipping the dose day prevents this baseline elevation. If you're sensitive to stimulant-induced anxiety, also avoid caffeine on session day.
Post-session return to medication: most people resume their ADHD medication the day after a session without issues. There's no documented pharmacological reason to delay. However, some people choose to stay off for 1-3 days during the early integration period for personal reasons — to stay in the more reflective, less stimulated state.
