Week 3 monotub update: Full colonization on BRF/verm mix inoculated with B+ liquid culture. Initiated fruiting conditions 48 hours ago — humidity 93%, temps 74°F, FAE via 4 small holes. First pins visible this morning! Three tiny white pinheads at the substrate surface. This is my fourth grow attempt and first success past the contamination phase. Patience and sterile technique won.

Harvest from first flush: 18g dry from a 6-quart tub of WBS/coco coir with Golden Teacher. Flush 1 of hopefully 3-4. Mushrooms were harvested just before the veils tore — caps still closed, which I've heard is ideal for potency. Drying at 65°F over 48 hours, crinkle test passed. Ready to weigh and store.

Contamination diagnosis help: Day 8 colonization on rye grain, noticing small yellow patches on the grain surface. Not green, not wet. Is this metabolite secretion or early contamination? Answer from thread: Yellow patches on grain can be normal metabolite secretion from mycelium — but sniff test is critical. If it smells normal/neutral, likely fine. If sour or unusual smell, bacterial contamination. Don't open to check — smell near the port with the lid very slightly loosened.
