Best resources for going deeper — books, podcasts, research papers
96 replies · General
Looking for recommendations beyond the content on this site. What books, podcasts, research papers, or other resources do people here find most valuable for understanding psilocybin from scientific, therapeutic, and cultural perspectives?
Books: How to Change Your Mind (Pollan) is the best general introduction. The Psychedelic Explorer's Guide (Fadiman) for practical harm reduction and microdosing research. Stealing Fire (Kotler & Wheal) for the performance/consciousness angle. For the science: The Psychedelic Renaissance (Nutt) is excellent. For history and culture: Plants of the Gods (Schultes & Hofmann) is foundational.
Podcasts: Tim Ferriss has done several long-form interviews with Pollan, Carhart-Harris, and MAPS researchers that remain some of the best introductions. Huberman Lab has a good episode on the neuroscience. For clinical content, the Psychedelic Medicine Podcast (Dr. Lynn Marie Morski) is the most professionally oriented.
For primary research: PubMed searches for 'psilocybin clinical trial' will surface the major papers. Key authors to follow: Robin Carhart-Harris (UCSF), Matthew Johnson (Johns Hopkins), Roland Griffiths (Johns Hopkins — the seminal mystical experience papers), Michael Pollan (popularisation). The MAPS website has a good library of published research across substances.
