I took what I thought was a 2g dose (scale seemed right) and the visual component was intense — far more than I had prepared for based on what I'd read about moderate doses. Colors breathing, geometric patterns with eyes closed, faces in every texture. Is this level of visual activity typical at 2g? Or did I take more than I thought?

Individual variation in psilocybin sensitivity is enormous. The same gram-weight dose can produce dramatically different effects between individuals based on body composition, gut flora, enzyme variation, psychological state, and dozens of other factors. 2g for one person is 0.5g equivalent for another, subjectively.

Visual intensity also scales non-linearly with psychological openness. If you were anxious about the experience, fighting it, or first-timing it with high expectations, visuals can come on faster and more intensely than the same dose in a relaxed, experienced headspace.

Set and setting matters as much as dose for visual character. Your environment — light quality, visual complexity, motion in the room — feeds directly into the visual system under psilocybin. A visually rich environment at 2g will be much more intense than a minimalist space at the same dose.
