People ask me how I prepare for solo sessions since I don't use facilitators. I'm not recommending this path for others — solo isn't for everyone — but here's the full preparation protocol I've developed over 20+ experiences.

The most underrated preparation element: environmental setup done the day before, not the morning of. Have everything you might need within reach and organized. Water, snacks, an eye mask, a blanket, a journal, your curated playlist ready. Don't be making decisions about where to put things while in an altered state. I also write myself a note that I read at onset: 'You are safe. You took X grams. This will last approximately 4-6 hours. If something feels difficult, lie down, breathe, and trust the process.'

The 'trusted contact' protocol for solo work: tell one trusted person what you're doing, your dose, your location, and roughly what time you expect to be coherent again. Give them a check-in time — 'if I haven't texted you by 8pm, call me.' You don't need a physical sitter for low-to-moderate doses if you're experienced, but someone should know where you are and have a way to check in. This removes the isolation risk without requiring a full sitter.

Regarding intention-setting: I write 2-3 specific intentions 2-3 days before. Not 'heal everything' but specific: 'explore my relationship with anger' or 'understand why I keep avoiding this conversation with my father.' The more specific the intention, the more useful the experience tends to be. Very broad intentions produce very diffuse experiences. Specific intentions give the unconscious mind a direction to move in.
