I'm seeing a lot of posts about Martha tents and automated humidity controllers that add up to $200+. I'm starting out and want to test with minimal investment. What are the genuine budget options for a fruiting chamber that actually produce reasonable results?

The shotgun fruiting chamber (SGFC) is the classic budget option: a clear storage tote with 1/4 inch holes every 2 inches on all six sides, filled with wet perlite in the bottom. The perlite maintains humidity through evaporation. Fan and mist twice daily. Cost: ~$10-15 for the tote + perlite. Adequate for beginner grow counts; not suitable for high-volume production.

The tub with holes method works but requires active management — you're the humidity controller. For $30-40 more, a cheap reptile humidifier + timer from Amazon transforms the SGFC into something semi-automated. That's still well under $50 total if you're creative with the components.

Monotubs can be budget fruiting chambers for their own substrate — the substrate creates its own microclimate. A properly prepared monotub with coco coir substrate doesn't need a separate fruiting chamber because you pin inside the tub itself. A used $10 storage tote plus substrate materials is a genuine all-in solution.
